Product Post: Showing Project Construction Costs in “Today’s Dollars”

January 16, 2009

FAQ 0273

Q.  How can I show a project’s construction cost in today’s dollars?

A.  If your firm is using both the Construction Cost and Construction schedule tabs in the Project module, you can use the Today’s Dollar function which applies inflation percentages to the Published Cost for Projects.  Your firm sets both the annual rate of inflation for each year and the date range to which to apply the function.

Today’s Dollar Function: Description

The “Today’s Dollar” functionality applies inflation rates to projects when their calculated completion date is within the inflation factor date range set by the firm.  Where applicable, the field: Final (or Current) Contract: Published Cost, on the Construction Cost page, becomes a calculation which reflects the project’s costs in today’s dollars.  Specific projects can be excluded from having inflation factors applied, even if the project’s Calculated Completion Date falls within the inflation factor date range.

Requirements for Use

You must be using both the Construction Cost page and the Construction Schedule page in the Projects module of Cosential.  Details about functionality and configuration here:  faq0273todaysdollars.
