I just read a great article Peldi Guilizzoni on his Company’s blog Balsamiq about a great idea for Twitter to make money. He also talks about how he has creates RSS feeds for certain key words and then will tweet back ads to people who are talking about issues which relate to his product. GREAT idea!
I would like to add another idea, in that I want to get ads, and other information about certain topics. I would love the ability to tell Twitter what kinds of ads I am interested in, sort of like a Google Ad Words in reverse. As a potential advertiser, I want to be able to Tweet people about new products and interesting ideas, but it will take me years to build up enough followers. This kind of functionality would empower me to get my message out to people who want to get it. Without ad words on Google, I would have to do a large amount of SEO to get sites listed to point to my marketing messages. As a new user of Twitter, I want to reach a large amount of people quickly. Today, I have to work hard to get a few followers here and there.
Also, integrating Twitter in my web application could be a nice feature for our CRM solution. An idea would be to embed a Twitter feed in our application. We would pay a small fee to integrate Twitter. Perhaps we could pass a small charge along to our customers, so when they bring up a Company record, we could display recent Twitter information about the Company. If the price could be kept low enough, I could then charge a small fee to our customers for this feature. Twitter could also offer this with advertising and no fee paid to smaller sites and blogs.
