While the debate in the architecture and design world over the virtues of CAD software vs. hand drawings continues, there is little debate over the success of architects such as Zaha Hadid, who have built their prestigious careers around digital design, and also the awe we experience when coming into contact with one of her structures. Yes, the world is changing, becoming more and more digitized, and so it comes as no surprise that the AEC world must change along with it.

It should also come as no surprise that we here at Cosential are digital junkies. From our founders to our developers, integration specialists, and our sales department, our lives are centered around being at the forefront of digital technology, and bringing it into the AEC. Yes, CRM is the name of our game, but we love design in all its glory. Here’s our list of the best CAD software that’s pushing the levels of innovation in 2016.

SketchUp Pro 2014, $590

“Drawing is thinking,” says SketchUp, which is funny, because the software is so user-friendly, it doesn’t make you think at all. The icons in the interface are large and easily accessible; it’s customizable, and really easy to use for beginners. It’s a joy to use in any step of the design process, from programming and diagramming, to detailing and documentation.

ZWCAD+, $799

This efficient and highly compatible software comes in fifteen languages, and has over 500,000 users in over 80 countries. You would think being that popular and widespread that the customer support would suffer? Nope, not with ZWCAD. Their customer support and training system is top-notch. Oh, and be on the lookout for ZWCAD 2017, coming soon.

TurboCAD Deluxe, $99.99

Not only does TurboCAD come with an appealing price tag, it also hasextraordinary functionality. The winner of many awards, this product features comprehensive 2D/3D tools for drafting, modeling, modifying, dimensioning and annotation. It’s user-friendly with guided help in setting up, and intuitive in its application.

bonzai3d 3.0, $495

This software is interesting because it’s highly effective with great editing tools, yet can be confusing to use. To combat that fact, the company Formz has excellent customer support.

BricsCAD Classic, $485

Really great at handling complex designs, BricsCAD Classic excels at creating crystal clear renderings of all kinds of models and drawings, whether they’re 2D or 3D. Also, the company has excellent customer support with eBooks and training sessions to help you master your craft.

Verdict:

If you take one of the best CAD software programs and Cosential’s Publisher module, that’s a sure recipe for a successful proposal. 2016 is going to be a good year you.
